There will be a school Christmas Shop December 18 and 19. Students will be able to buy gifts for themselves or family members. Prices will range from $2.00 to $10.00.

This month it's all about reading! Reading, reading, reading! Reading logs were sent home with students at the end of last month and are due back on December 17th. Students who return completed logs will receive a Sweet Reading Treat. We have a Book Fair planned for December 17-19th. Students and parent are invited to shop, shop, shop! The Book Fair will be open during our next Parent Engagement Meeting on December 17th, and Wednesday Dec. 18th during evening hours as well. Books make wonderful gifts. Come take a look!

It is time for the second round of testing! All students will begin their MAPS testing this week. It's very important that students do their best on all exams. As an incentive, we will be offering an exciting reward field trip to SeaQuest for students who qualify. Elementary students must show growth in both English and Math, Students in grades 5-8 must show growth in two of the three subjects tested. Only students who qualify will participate in the field trip. We are working to make this happen in January. Rest, sleep well, eat well, do well! Let's do this! Below is a link about SeaQuest.

MAPS Testing will begin this week for all students. Please talk to your child about the importance of doing their best every day. Students should get plenty of sleep every night and eat a good breakfast. Doing both of these things will ensure that your child is working at full capacity.
Community Christmas Dinner and School Program
It is time for our annual Community Christmas Dinner and Program in the Amargosa Valley Community Center (Gym). Dinner starts at 5:00 PM with the School children singing at 6:00 PM (please have children there no later than 5:45). There will be Hayrides, Hot Cocoa, and Santa afterwards in the Park. Everything is free.
Good news! We no longer have any restrictions on our drinking water. Our drinking water is safe and has passed the latest round of testing. We thank you for your patience and understanding during this time. Please remember students will be dismissed at 12:40 today. PVHS Spaghetti Dinner Trophy Winner - It was a great turnout for the Moose Lodge 808 & Chapter 1141 Donation dinner for the Homeless Student's Activity Fund. Lots of entertainment, raffle prizes, desserts, and really good spaghetti. It came down to the wire between PVHS and JG Johnson Elementary School for the most attendees. Hope to see you all next year for this annual event. Who will get the trophy next year??A great night and a great cause.

Prior to being selected for this position, Ms. Hensyel served as a Teacher Aide at the Beatty Schools. We are fortunate to have Krystle Hensyel in this position as she is a dynamic learner, calm, measured, and efficient.

To succeed in school, children need good communication skills. One of them is listening. To build your child's skills, say her name to get her attention. Then look her in the eye and speak quietly; your child will have to listen closely. Model good listening by paying undivided attention when your child speaks to you. Encourage her to continue with statements like, "Tell me more."
